Good Hemp Review and Recipes by The Gourmet Vegan
When Good Hemp contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in writing some exclusive recipes, I jumped at the chance. Before working on the recipes the only products I had used from the Good Hemp range were the Simply Delicious and the Good Hemp Oil. Both of which I have used for some time and would say are great products, and of course, like the complete range, are a fantastic source of Omega 3’s.
The products I had not worked with before were the Wholemeal Protein Flour, High Protein Flour and Hemp Seed Hearts and when it came to developing a range of recipes that were healthy and delicious and showed the diversity of the products, I was immediately visualizing some amazing recipes.
One thing I never do enough of is bake, and yet, I love to bake. That said, I wanted to look at creating some simple Gluten Free baking options, using the hemp flours, to offer some delicious high protein deserts for those that love anything sweet and comforting. Although I was a little anxious and uncertain as to how the Gluten Free flours would work in the recipes, I have to say, I found working with these products to be extremely easy and the products provided for some amazing results. Check out the recipes below for my Good Hemp Carrot Cake and an absolutely delicious Mango, Raspberry and Custard Tart.
After the deserts, it was time to look at creating some savory dishes. Again, I wanted to pack these recipes with as much flavour as possible but without over complicating things . Good Hemp Oil has the most incredible nutty taste and is fantastic when used in pastry and transforms a salad dressing by taking it to another level. Pairing the nutty taste of the oil with the texture of the Good Hemp Seed Hearts, my Moroccan Inspired Tofu, Orange and Vegetable Salad ( recipe below ) is the perfect side salad to accompany any meal.
My final recipe came about because I have always wanted to get around to creating an amazing Gluten Free pizza. The reason being that I have family members and friends that are celiac and are always telling me that they can never find a good recipe for a pizza base that is made with Gluten Free flour. The base is either of the wrong texture or tasteless. Using Good Hemp, I was able to change this and by adding a topping that has the most mouthwatering flavours, my Artichoke and Shiitake Pizza with Sweet Red Onions and Peppers is a recipe you should not miss out on.
In conclusion I would say that Good Hemp products are a very valuable addition to the ingredients you may already be using in the kitchen. I now use the oil in many of my dishes and when it comes to salad dressings, this is my go-to oil to use. The flours can be added to other flour to increase the protein count, and so, the products are a win-win as far as my cooking is concerned.
Not forgetting also that the whole hemp seed contains approximately 25% protein, 35% oil, 29% dietary fibre and a mix of minerals, iron and zinc. Also, the protein in hemp contains all 20 amino acids including all 9 essential amino acids. In fact, protein in hemp is one of the very few plant proteins to contain the same amino acids as milk, meat and eggs.
